Prosecution Bulletins - 2004

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency is responsible for enforcing a number of Acts of Parliament in order to deliver inspection and related services for consumers and industry that contribute to food safety, animal health and plant protection.

As part of its ongoing effort to increase awareness of CFIA’s role in encouraging compliance with the various Acts and Regulations, the CFIA issues prosecution bulletins when a conviction is obtained.

December 2004

• December 23 - Truckers Fined for Transporting Elk in Crowded Conditions

• December 20 - $3,600 fine for the sale of honey containing sugar from cane/corn

• December 20 - Central Boeki Ltd. Receives $4,000 Fine for Illegally Selling Fish

November 2004

• November 30 - Daily Catch Seafoods Fined $5,000 for Selling Toxic Shellfish

• November 18 - Toronto Company Fined for Violation of Food and Drugs Act

September 2004

• September 24 - Elphège et Norbert LeBlanc Ltd. fined for falsifying or illegally altering a Certificate of Origin and Hygiene

• September 2 - Court Fines Mulder’s Meat Market (1983) Ltd. $ 10,000 for contravening the Meat Inspection Act and Orders Forfeiture of Seized Meat Product Valued at $ 7,400

August 2004

• August 9 - Court Fines Captain Dan's Inc. $10,000 for violation of Food and Drugs Act and Fish Inspection Regulations

• August 9 - Court Fines Chris Brothers Meats and Delicatessen Ltd. $2,000 for contravening the Meat Inspection Act

• August 9 - Louis W. Smith found guilty of contravening the Seeds Act

• August 6 - Court Fines Halifax Seafood Limited $3,000 for contravening the Fish Inspection Regulations

• August 6 - Court Fines Malabar Super Spice Company Ltd. $1,000 for contravening the Meat Inspection Act and Orders Forfeiture of Seized Meat Product Valued at $2,000

• August 6 - Court Fines Zeigler Bros. Ltd. $2,000 for contravening the Feeds Act and Orders Forfeiture of Seized Product Valued at $13,000
