$10,000 Fine for Infractions Related to the Interprovincial Transportation of Potatoes

On February 9, 2005, Les Patates Gemme et Frères (1997) Inc pleaded guilty to 10 counts of violating subsection 29(2) of the Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Regulations.

From July 31 to October 21, 2002, Les Patates Gemme et Frères (1997) Inc was involved in the interprovincial marketing of a number of shipments of bulk potatoes from New Brunswick to Quebec that were not inspected or accompanied by an inspection certificate, a document or a release form issued by an inspector as required by the Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Regulations.

Mr Justice Ronald Dudemaine of the Court of Quebec fined the company $1,000 per count for a total of $10,000.
