ALLERGY ALERT

UNDECLARED MILK IN GE GANO CAFE 3-IN-1 INSTANT COFFEE BEVERAGE, GINSENG TONGKAT ALI AND GANO C’ REAL SPIRULINA OATS

OTTAWA, February 3, 2005 - The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and Gano Excel Canada are warning people with allergies to milk protein not to consume GE Gano Cafe 3-In-1 Instant Coffee Beverage with Ganoderma Extract, Ginseng Tongkat Ali and Gano C ‘ Real Spirulina Oats. The affected products may contain milk protein which is not declared on the label. This alert is of concern to those individuals who have allergies to milk protein.

The following products are affected by the alert:

  1. GE, Gano Cafe 3-In-1 Instant Coffee Beverage with Ganoderma Extract sold in a package of 20 x 21 gm sachets.

  2. GE, Ganocafe Ginseng Tongkat Ali sold in a package of 15 x 23 gm sachets.
  3. GE, Gano C ‘ Real Spirulina Oats sold in a package of 15 x 30 gm sachets.

All codes of these products are affected.

The importer, Gano Excel Canada, Burnaby, British Columbia, is voluntarily recalling the affected products from the marketplace. The affected products, imported from Malaysia, have been distributed across Canada principally through internet sales.

Consumption of these products may cause a serious or life-threatening reaction in persons with allergies to milk protein. There has been two reported illnesses associated with the consumption of these products.

The CFIA is monitoring the effectiveness of the recall.
