ALLERGY ALERT

UNDECLARED SOY PROTEIN IN VARIOUS FLAVOURS OF CRAVINGS AND ZARKY’S WAIST WATCHERS BRAND CHEESECAKES

OTTAWA, March 10, 2005 - The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and Cravings are warning people with allergies to soy protein not to consume various Cravings and Zarky’s Waist Watchers brand Cheesecakes described below. The affected products contain soy protein which is not declared on the label. This alert is of concern to those individuals who have allergies to soy protein.

The following flavours of Cravings and Zarky’s Waist Watchers brand Cheesecakes are affected by this alert.

  1. Key Lime Cheesecake
  2. Chocolate Cheesecake
  3. Cherry Cheesecake
  4. Strawberry Cheesecake
  5. Lemon Cheesecake
  6. Raspberry Cheesecake
  7. Blueberry Cheesecake
  8. Amaretto Cheesecake

These products are sold in 60 g packages. All code dates between 1050718 to 1050920, inclusive are affected by this alert. The code date appears on a sticker on the bottom of the package.

The manufacturer, Cravings, Perth, Ontario, is voluntarily recalling the affected products from the marketplace. The affected products have been distributed in Ontario.

Consumption of these products may cause a serious or life-threatening reaction in persons with allergies to soy protein. There have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of these products.

The CFIA is monitoring the effectiveness of the recall.
