ALLERGY ALERTUNDECLARED EGG IN CERTAIN YTS VEGGIE FOOD BRAND VEGETARIAN PRODUCTSRelated Alerts: 2005-05-17b | 2005-05-10b | 2005-05-10 OTTAWA, May 17, 2005 - The allergy advisory issued on May 10, 2005 is being updated to include information on product expiration dates which were distributed in Canada. The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is warning people with allergies to egg protein not to consume YTS Veggie Food brand vegetarian products described below. These products contain egg protein which is not declared on the label. This alert is of concern to those individuals who have allergies to egg protein. As a result of a food safety investigation it was determined that the date codes for the affected products described below have been extended to include expiration dates from 4/27/04 to 4/27/06. Affected packages may also have been distributed with no expiration dates. The following YTS Veggie Food brand products distributed in Canada are affected by this alert:
The importer Perfect International Co. Ltd., North York, Ontario is voluntarily recalling these products from the marketplace. The affected products imported from United States of America have been distributed only in the Greater Toronto Area. Consumption of these products may cause a serious or life-threatening reaction in persons with allergies to egg protein. There have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of these products. The CFIA is continuing its food safety investigation and monitoring the effectiveness of the recall.
