UPDATE - ALLERGY ALERT

UNDECLARED WHEAT AND SESAME SEED IN CHARLIES SNACKS YOUTH MIX

OTTAWA, May 27, 2005 - The public warning issued on May 25, 2005 has been expanded to include additional information on the affected products. The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and JVF Distribution L.P. are warning people with allergies to wheat or sesame seed not to consume Charlies Snacks Youth Mix described below. The affected products contain wheat and sesame seed which are not declared on the label. This alert is of concern to those individuals who have allergies to wheat or sesame seed.

All codes of the following products are affected by this alert:

  1. Charlies Snacks Youth Mix, sold in a 275 g package, bearing UPC 0 69313 10040 1.
  2. Charlies Snacks Youth Mix, sold in a 400 g package, bearing UPC 0 69313 06978 4.

The manufacturer, JVF Distribution L.P. Toronto, Ontario, is voluntarily recalling the affected products from the marketplace. The affected products have been distributed in Ontario.

Consumption of these products may cause a serious or life-threatening reaction in persons with allergies to wheat or sesame seed. There have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of these products.

The CFIA is monitoring the effectiveness of the recall.
