HEALTH HAZARD ALERTCANNED MEAT PRODUCTS SOLD BY GERMAN MEAT AND SAUSAGE DELI, TATLA LAKE, BRITISH COLUMBIA MAY CONTAIN DANGEROUS BACTERIAOTTAWA, July 22, 2005 - The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is warning the public not to consume canned meat products listed below. These products may be contaminated with the bacteria responsible for botulism, a foodborne illness in humans. All codes of the following products packed in 0.245 kg cans are affected by this alert:
These products were sold only from the German Meat and Sausage Deli, Tatla Lake, British Columbia. Botulism is a life-threatening illness caused by the build-up of toxins produced by Clostridium botulinum bacteria. Food contaminated with C. botulinum may not look or smell spoiled. The products should not be consumed by humans or animals. There have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of these products.
