STONEBRIDGE HIVEWORKS HONEY MAY CONTAIN SULFA DRUG RESIDUE

OTTAWA, September 2, 2005 - The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and Stonebridge Hiveworks are warning people with sensitivities to sulfa drugs not to consume Stonebridge Hiveworks honey. The affected honey products may contain the drug residue, sulfadoxine.

The affected products, liquid honey, creamed honey and combed honey are sold in the following size and type containers: 375 g plastic bear, 500 g glass jar, 500 g plastic squeezable and 1 kg glass jar. Products affected by this recall do not bear lot code information. The containers bear the following information:

Stonebridge Hiveworks
Vern Price #10642
Lyndhurst, ON

These products have been distributed from Lyndhurst and Gananoque, Ontario through farm gate sales and retail stores.

There have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of these products.

Consumption of these products may cause a serious or life-threatening reaction in persons with sensitivities to sulfa drugs.

The producer, Stonebridge Hiveworks, Lyndhurst, Ontario is voluntarily recalling the affected products from the marketplace. The CFIA is monitoring the effectiveness of the recall.
