ALLERGY ALERT

UNDECLARED EGG AND WHEAT IN SERAFINA’S FINE FOODS BRAND RAVIOLI PRODUCTS

OTTAWA, November 18, 2005 - The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and Serafina’s Fine Foods are warning people with allergies to egg protein or wheat not to consume Serafina’s Fine Foods brand ravioli products described below. The affected products contain egg and wheat which are not declared on the label.

The following Serafina’s Fine Foods brand ravioli products, sold frozen in 400 g packages, are affected by this alert:

  1. Asparagus Ravioli
  2. Cheese Ravioli
  3. Classic Ravioli
  4. Squash Ravioli
  5. Roasted Red Pepper Ravioli
  6. Smoked Salmon Ravioli
  7. Halibut & Crab Ravioli
  8. Veal Parmigiano Ravioli
  9. Lobster Ravioli
  10. Prosciutto & Sundried Tomato Ravioli
  11. Porcini Ravioli

These products have been distributed in British Columbia.

There have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of these products.

Consumption of these products may cause a serious or life-threatening reaction in persons with allergies to egg protein or wheat.

The manufacturer, Serafina’s Fine Foods, Qualicum Bay, British Columbia, is voluntarily recalling the affected products from the marketplace. The CFIA is monitoring the effectiveness of the recall.

CFIA at 1 800 442-2342 from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. local time, Monday to Friday.
