ALLERGY ALERTUNDECLARED SOY PROTEIN IN COAST TO COAST WINNIPEG RYE BREADOTTAWA, December 2, 2005 - The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and Canada Safeway are warning people with allergies to soy protein not to consume the Coast to Coast Winnipeg Rye Bread. The affected product contains soy protein which is not declared on the label. The product is sold in a 450 g package bearing the UPC 0 58200 19764 8. All date codes are affected. This product has been distributed in Safeway stores in Ontario, Manitoba and Saskatchewan. There have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of this product. Consumption of this product may cause a serious or life-threatening reaction in persons with allergies to soy protein. Canada Safeway, Calgary, Alberta, is voluntarily recalling the affected product from the marketplace. The CFIA is monitoring the effectiveness of the recall.
