PFRA Saskatchewan Regional Page

The primary function of the regional offices is to coordinate PFRA field activities in the region and to provide administrative and technical support to the District Offices. Regional staff are also involved in:

  1. providing a regional perspective on program policy and evaluation issues;
  2. fostering collaborative relationships with other federal and provincial agencies, academic and research organizations, the agri-food industry, and groups representing rural clients, including First Nations;
  3. carrying out public awareness activities which contribute to an understanding of sustainable agriculture practices; and
  4. management of federal/provincial programs to support agricultural sustainability and rural economic development.

PFRA district staff in the region work closely with individuals, community groups, business groups, government agencies and others in:

  • Group and on-farm water projects, management of federal irrigation projects, management of federal water storage and conveyance projects.
  • On-farm soil and water conservation projects.
  • Operation of federal community pastures.
  • Rural economic development.
  • Public awareness and educational activities.
  • Many other projects which support the wise use of natural resources, and the rural economy of the region.

PFRA staff in this region have a range of expertise in water resource management, project development and design, drafting and GPS (global positioning systems, used mainly for surveying), soil conservation and management, rural land use, environmental assessment, rural economic development, policy development and analysis.
