CAIS Inventory Transition Initiative (CITI)As part of the May 2 budget, the federal government announced a total of $1.5 billion in support to producers including one-time funding of $900 million to retroactively shift the inventory valuation method used under the Canadian Agricultural Income Stabilization (CAIS) program. The funds will be delivered through the CAIS Inventory Transition Initiative (CITI). This retroactive inventory valuation adjustment will result in federal payments of approximately $900 million to 2003, 2004, and 2005 CAIS participants. Producers do not need to apply. Eligible CAIS participants in 2003, 2004, or 2005 will have their benefit for these program years recalculated using a new method of valuing inventory change. If their benefit for any of the program years is increased using this new method, they will receive an additional payment. Producers will receive a statement indicating how their benefit was calculated after each payment. For more information, please see the attached fact sheet. For further information, please contact the CAIS administration toll-free at 1-866-367-8506 or visit the program Web site at www.agr.gc.ca/cais/citi The CAIS program is delivered in British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Newfoundland and Labrador and Yukon by the federal government.
