Tipsheet stories

Tipsheet is a media product made up of short stories written to appeal mainly to rural and specialized audiences, including small and rural community newspapers, radio stations and publications that focus on agriculture. The brief format lends itself to verbatim publishing and encourages reporters to follow-up for feature stories.

Tipsheet is distributed to more than 1,200 media across Canada on a monthly basis and is posted on AAFC's Website. Stories on ACAAF-funded projects are individually posted here.

July 2005 - Developing new markets for New Brunswick potatoes

Potatoes New Brunswick (NB) is undertaking an aggressive marketing campaign to help strengthen the industry's share of the potato market. Potatoes NB, the marketing agency for the potato sector in the province, has received $236,000 in funding to assist the potato sector in developing new markets for New Brunswick potato products. Potatoes NB is adding $121,000, making the overall value of the market development project $357,000. The funding is provided by Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada through its Advancing Canadian Agriculture and Agri-Food program (ACAAF). The potato sector has faced a number of challenges recently including increased competition and lower prices due to a glut of potatoes on the market. Potatoes NB will use the funding to step up promotional activities, maintain current clients and securing new sales. The goal is to capture a greater share of the available domestic and export potato markets. The plan includes collecting information on market conditions and opportunities in the potato market and increased involvement in trade shows and trade missions in Canada, the U.S. and other foreign markets.

May 2004 - Capturing Market Opportunities

There's a five-year, $240 million program to help ensure Canada's agriculture and agri-food sector is positioned to plan for the future and capture market opportunities. The Advancing Canadian Agriculture and Agri-Food (ACAAF) Program will provide stakeholders the means to identify and address current and emerging issues. The ACAAF will continue the CARD fund's cooperative contributions to projects at the national, multi-regional and regional level that will help advance the Canadian sector. National initiatives will be delivered by national industry organizations while the 14 industry-led councils across Canada will continue to deliver initiatives at the provincial and territorial level. Details on how to apply, as well as downloadable electronic versions of the application form, and contact information for the industry-led councils have been posted at www.agr.gc.ca/acaaf.
