OverviewThe main role of Environmental Economics Branch is to do environmental economic analysis and research to support the development of government policy. In recent years, a major focus has been on promoting the use of economic instruments and incentives to achieve environmental goals, such as reducing pollution emissions. More recently, the branch has done analysis on the economic costs and benefits associated with various potential policy measures, including climate change. Along with these initiatives, the Branch has developed tools and models to estimate the economic benefits of policy changes. The Air Quality Valuation Model (AQVM) helps to estimate the health and environmental impacts of changes in air quality, while the Environmental Valuation Reference Inventory (EVRI) helps analysts value a wide range of environmental assets and services.
