2004-2005 UNIVERSITY FUNDING REQUESTS
For 2004-2005, 30 universities and one northern college requested a total of $1,673,535.16 in support of
394 students for an average allocation of $4,247.55. Table 8 provides the distribution of the final
allocations under the Northern Scientific Training Program by university for 2004-2005, totalling
$1,000,000 for 31 institutions. The allocation of the training funds by the Northern Scientific Training
Program Committee was made on the basis of an in-depth assessment of each application according to the
following criteria:
- extent to which the application fits with Program criteria;
- evaluation of past performance and up-coming plans; and
- the training component of the application and the contribution to the development of northern
specialists at the university.
In addition, the Committee considered the number of students supported by the Program in the previous
year, the number of students proposed for funding in the upcoming year, and the general completeness
and clarity of the information provided in each application.
