1. What are the minimum computer requirements to access this service?

2.  How do I register for My Service Canada Account?

The registration process for My Service Canada Account is twofold:

  1. obtain an epass user ID and Password (4 steps)
  2. prove who you are by providing personal information

In addition to obtaining an epass and proving who you are, you will also be presented and asked to accept certain Privacy Notice Statements and Terms and Conditions pages which cover these registration components. After completing the registration process, you will be able to access your personal information within My Service Canada Account on subsequent visits by simply logging in, using your epass User ID and Password.

3.  Why do I need a Government of Canada epass to access My Service Canada Account?

We have made your Employment Insurance, Canada Pension Plan and Old Age Security information available with My Service Canada Account. The security and protection of confidential client information is Service Canada’s highest priority when offering services over the Internet. In order to achieve this, we have enhanced our procedures for accessing My Service Canada Account and included registering for a Government of Canada epass.

4. What is a Government of Canada epass?

A Government of Canada epass is a fast and easy way to securely access Government services via the Internet and consists of a User ID and Password chosen by you.

5. Why am I being asked to download an applet to apply for an epass?

epass Canada uses a signed applet from Entrust Limited. This applet has been designed to enhance security. Depending on your virtual machine (Sun VM, Microsoft JVM, or Apple's JVM) you will encounter a security message. You must reply Yes to the security message. If you select No, you will not be able to register for an epass or use this on-line service. For clients using a high speed or cable connection for their internet service, the download is quick however for those that use a dial up connection you may have to wait up to 15 minutes for it to download.

6. I already have a Government of Canada epass, but from another department or agency. Can I use it for My Service Canada Account?

Yes. If you already have a Government of Canada epass from another on-line service and would like to use it to access  My Service Canada Account, return to the My Service Canada Account page and select "Log in now" then log in using your epass User ID and Password.

Before you can access My Service Canada Account, you will need to prove who you are by providing personal information such as your Social Insurance Number and your EI Access Code or your CPP/OAS Personal Access Code.

7. I have forgotten or misplaced my epass User ID and/or my Password. Is there any way that I can recover them?

User ID

No, you cannot recover your User ID if you have forgotten or misplaced it. In order to use the My Service Canada Account you will need to re-register for a Government of Canada epass. Your old epass will be replaced by the new one when you re-register.

To re-register for a Government of Canada epass, return to the start page and select Register now! then follow the instructions provided.

Password

If you have forgotten or misplaced your epass Password, you can create a new password, provided you respond correctly to the recovery questions you selected and answered when you registered. Follow these steps:

  1. Return to the start page and select "Log in now".
  2. At the epass Canada "Log In or Register" page, select "Did you Forget Your Password?".
  3. At the "Did you Forget Your Password?" page, follow the three step process to create your new Password.

8. How do I access the epass Canada site to Change my User ID, Change my Password or Revoke my epass?

To change your Password or User ID, or Revoke your epass follow these steps:

  1. At the My Service Canada Account page, select "Log in now".
  2. At the epass Canada "Log In or Register" page, enter your epass User ID and Password.
  3. At the "epass Canada Welcome" page, select the "Manage My epass" button.
  4. At the "Manage My epass" page, select the appropriate link to modify your epass.

9. Can a representative access My Service Canada Account on my behalf?

Only the person with the Social Insurance Number (SIN) associated with the epass can use My Service Canada Account to access his or her information. If you would like someone to represent you, refer to Contact Us and the appropriate program area for additional information.
