Providing Personal Information

Why do you need to provide personal information to access My Service Canada Account?

You must provide personal information which proves your identity so that we can ensure that you are the only person who has access to your information.

What are the steps to proving your identity?

  1. Before giving you access to My Service Canada Account, we require you to apply for a Government of Canada epass. The epass is a username and password that allows you to view and update your information securely with the Government of Canada.

  2. Along with an epass, you also need either an Employment Insurance (EI) Access Code or a Personal Access Code (PAC) from the Canada Pension Plan/Old Age Security (CPP/OAS) to access My Service Canada Account. If you are an EI client, you would have received the Access Code with your first mailing following applying for EI benefits. If you are a CPP/OAS client, you must apply for a PAC which is then sent to you by mail within 5-10 business days.

  3. Once you have both your epass and either an Access Code or Personal Access Code, we will ask you to prove your identity by entering these two pieces of information as well as personal information:
    • Your Social Insurance Number
    • Your date of birth
    • Your province of residence

The combination of these different pieces of information will authenticate your identity and give you access to your personal information with the Government of Canada.

You will only need to go through these steps the first time you login to My Service Canada Account. After that, all you will need to provide is your epass username and password to prove your identity.

Is my personal information protected?
