Just for Newcomers to Canada:

  1. Temporary Resident Visa
    The Temporary Resident Visa program issues temporary resident visas (single entry visas and multiple entry visas) and transit visas to eligible applicants and provides information on the related application process.
  2. Permanent Resident Card
    The Permanent Resident (PR) Card program issues PR Cards to permanent residents of Canada, who must present theirs when travelling by commercial carrier (airplane, boat, bus or train) in order to gain re-entry into Canada.
  3. Work Permits
    The Work Permits program issues work permits to eligible foreign workers who wish to work temporarily in Canada, provides information on the related application process, and issues visitor records to business visitors.
  4. Study Permits
    The Study Permits program issues study permits (formerly "student authorizations") to eligible foreign students and provides information on the related application process.
  5. Travel Documents
    The Travel Documents program issues travel documents to individuals who have refugee or protected person status in Canada. The program also issues certificates of identity to legally landed persons.
  6. Travel Document - Permanent Resident Abroad
    The Travel Document - Permanent Resident Abroad program issues temporary travel documents to permanent residents of Canada abroad who do not have a permanent resident card (PR Card).

Newcomers to Canada can also receive:

  1. Social Insurance Number
    The Social Insurance Number (SIN) is a nine-digit number that you require to work in Canada or to receive government benefits.
  2. Citizenship Certificate
    The Citizenship Certificate program issues citizenship certificates to naturalized Canadian citizens, as well as to Canadian-born citizens who submit an application.
  3. Firearms Registration
    The Firearms Registration program issues firearms licences and firearm registration certificates, assists individuals in filling out the applications for firearms licences and processes applications for firearms licences and registration for individuals.
  4. Pleasure Craft Licences
    A Pleasure Craft Licence is the number placed on the side of each recreational vessel as required under the Small Vessel Regulations of the Canada Shipping Act.  The number is used to assist law enforcement and search and rescue organizations in identifying each individual pleasure craft.
  5. Authentication of Documents
    The Authentication of Documents program authenticates official Canadian documents and documents signed by a Canadian notary public or lawyer for use abroad.
  6. Ship Registration
    The Ship Registration program issues registration for commercial ships and pleasure crafts and manages the Canadian Register of Ships, which includes ship names, ownership details and records of all registered vessels for each port of registry in Canada.
  7. NEXUS Highway
    The NEXUS Highway program allows low-risk pre-approved travellers to use designated NEXUS lanes at certain border crossings without being subject to regular customs and immigration questioning.
  8. CANPASS Air
    The CANPASS Air program allows pre-screened, low-risk commercial airline passengers who are members of the program to use automated kiosks to clear customs and immigration quickly and securely at participating airports.
  9. CANPASS - Private Boats
    The CANPASS - Private Boats program allows CANPASS permit holders who wish to enter Canada aboard private boats from the United States to receive pre-authorized customs clearance.
  10. CANPASS - Private Aircraft
    The CANPASS - Private Aircraft program allows CANPASS permit holders aboard transborder flights of private aircraft originating in the United States (US) or cleared by US customs to enter Canada and land at an authorized airport of entry or designated CANPASS airport only.
