GROUNDWATER INFORMATION SYSTEM

Welcome to Alberta Environment’s GROUNDWATER INFORMATION SYSTEM website.

This Geographical Information System (GIS) site contains a database of approximately 500,000 records with nearly 5,000 new drilling reports added annually. The database also contains information about individual water well drilling reports, chemical analysis reports up to the end of 1986, springs, flowing shot holes, test holes, and pump tests conducted on the wells.

HELPFUL HINT:
This site is best accessed over a high-speed internet connection using a screen resolution of 1024 x 768. The first time you access this system you will be prompted to perform a step-by-step download of an internet plug-in called Mapguide. This is required before you can view the information. Further information and instructions are available after this download. The plug-in download is a one-time event. To maximize screen space available for the application, use the F11 key to toggle the internet explorer buttons off and on.

Through this system you can view the information from the original report received by the Groundwater Information Centre (GIC). You can also print individual records and print the overlaying map(s) that show the wells in relation to other wells and roads, etc.

Some items in the Groundwater Database that are not viewable i.e. geophysical logs, new reports received that have not yet been entered into the database. If you require this information please contact the GIC by email, phone or fax as shown below. To obtain chemical analysis information after 1986 please contact Alberta Health and Wellness.

DISCLAIMER:
Please note that the data from this system may not be fully checked. The Province disclaims all responsibility for its accuracy.

CHARGES:
The site supplies you with single reports for which there is no charge. For multiple records or bulk data please contact the GIC to produce reports that can then be mailed, faxed or produced on CD ROM for a charge.
