Sewers & Wastewater
The City's Robert O. Pickard Environmental Centre is the focal point of many of the water environment programs that protect Ottawa's waterways. To protect the environment, carefully trained staff at the Centre treat the water leaving your home. The City's water-quality experts seek new ways to treat water and use sludge. They also monitor water quality in rivers and streams and teach environmentally-responsible practices.
Increased public interest and changing legislation have made water quality an important issue in recent years. In responding to public concerns, Ottawa has implemented comprehensive, well-coordinated programs to monitor and control water pollution and to prevent or reverse environmental degradation.
You will find information on collection and treatment of wastewater, environmental programs and public education initiatives in the following pages. If you have any further questions regarding our programs or operations, you can e-mail us.
