CHANGES IN THE RATES OF THE FEDERAL EXCISE TAX ON CIGARETTES AND TOBACCO STICKS SOLD IN PRINCE EDWARD ISLAND

This notice provides information on changes in the rates of federal excise tax on cigarettes and tobacco sticks sold in Prince Edward Island.

Finance Minister Paul Martin tabled today a Ways and Means Motion providing for an excise tax increase of $1.00 per carton of 200 cigarettes and 32 cents per carton of 200 sticks sold in Prince Edward Island.

This will be effected through a reduction to amounts claimed under the ongoing rebate progam. These amounts will be reduced to $0.00625 per cigarette and $0.0074 per stick effective for sales by licensed wholesale vendors to licensed retail vendors in Prince Edward Island on or after April 1, 1995. Revised rebate forms will be distributed to interested parties when available.
