Marine forecasts issued by the Pacific Weather Centre of Environment
Canada at 4 PM PST Sunday 10 December 2006 for the period ending 4 PM 
Monday with an outlook for the following 24 hours.
The next scheduled forecast will be issued at 9:30 PM PST.

Synopsis
    An intense 970 millibar low developing offshore will move
Rapidly eastward across Bowie this evening and reach the Alaska
Panhandle overnight. A trailing cold front will sweep across south 
coastal waters overnight and Monday morning.
    Over northern waters gale to storm force southeasterlies prevail 
ahead of the low. Winds are likely to reach hurricane force near the 
headlands of northern Vancouver Island and in northern Hecate strait 
and central Dixon entrance this evening. Winds will shift to strong 
to gale southwest in the wake of the low.
    Over southern waters moderate to strong southeasterly winds
Will rise to gale to storm force this evening then ease to strong 
southwest Monday afternoon.

Forecast sea state values are combined wind wave and swell height.

    South coast

Strait of Georgia.
Gale warning continued.
Northwest of Nanaimo..Winds southeast 20 to 25 knots rising to 
southeast 30 to gales 40 late this evening then veering to southwest 
20 to 25 Monday afternoon.
Southeast of Nanaimo..Winds southeast 15 to 20 knots rising to 
southeasterly 25 to gales 35 near midnight then rising to southerly 
gales 35 to 45 early Monday morning. Winds veering to southwest 20 to
25 Monday afternoon.
Periods of rain.
Outlook. Winds moderate to strong southerly rising to southwesterly 
gales over southern section.

Howe Sound.
Winds northerly outflow 20 knots shifting to southerly inflow 15
This evening and to northerly outflow 20 overnight. Winds shifting
To southerly inflow 15 to 25 Monday afternoon. Periods of rain.
Outlook. Winds moderate to strong southerly inflow shifting to 
moderate northerly outflow.

Haro strait.
Gale warning continued.
Winds southeast 10 to 15 knots rising to southerly 20 to 25
This evening and to southerly gales 35 near midnight. Winds
Veering to southwest 20 to 25 Monday afternoon. Showers.
Rain beginning overnight.
Outlook. Southeasterly gales shifting to strong southwest.

Juan de Fuca strait.
Gale warning continued.
Winds southwest 15 to 25 knots except southerly 20 near the west 
entrance. Winds shifting to southeast 15 to 25 this evening
With southerly gales 35 near the west entrance. Winds rising to 
southerly gales 35 near the east entrance overnight. Winds
Shifting to southwest 15 to 25 Monday afternoon. Showers. Rain 
beginning overnight.
Outlook. Strong southeasterly winds with occasional gales near the 
entrances.

Johnstone strait.
Gale warning continued.
Winds easterly 15 to 20 knots rising to 25 to gales 35 this
Afternoon then to southeast gales 35 to 45 this evening.
Wind easing to southeast 20 to 30 overnight. Showers.
Outlook. Winds shifting to moderate westerly then to easterly.

Queen Charlotte strait.
Storm warning continued.
Winds southeast 30 to gales 40 knots rising to gales 40 to storm 
force 50 early this evening. Winds easing to southeast 15 to 20 
overnight then shifting to southwest 10 to 20 Monday afternoon. 
Showers. Rain beginning this evening.
Outlook. Winds shifting to moderate easterly.

West Coast Vancouver Island North.
Hurricane force wind warning continued.
Winds southeast gales 35 to 45 knots rising to storm force 50 to 55 
with hurricane force 65 near the headlands this evening. Winds
Easing to southwest 25 to gales 35 near midnight then backing to 
southeast 20 early Monday morning. Periods of rain. Seas 4 to 5 
metres building to 5 to 7 this evening then subsiding to 3 to 5 
Monday morning.
Outlook. Moderate to strong southeasterly backing to northwest.

West Coast Vancouver Island South.
Storm warning continued.
Winds southerly 20 to 30 knots rising to southeast gales 40 to storm 
force 50 this evening. Winds easing to variable 15 overnight except 
southerly gales 35 near the west entrance of Juan de Fuca
Strait. Winds rising to northeast 20 to 30 except southeasterly
Gales 35 near the west entrance of Juan de Fuca strait Monday 
morning. Winds shifting to southwest 20 Monday afternoon.
Periods of rain. Seas 3 to 4 metres building to 5 to 7 overnight.
Outlook. Winds moderate to strong southwest rising to gale force.

    North coast

Queen Charlotte Sound.

45 to storm force 55 this evening. Winds easing to southwest 25 near 
midnight then to southeast 15 Monday morning. Winds backing to 
northeast 15 Monday afternoon. Periods of rain. Seas near 4 metres 
building to 6 to 8 this evening then subsiding to 4 to 5 Monday 
morning.
Outlook. Winds moderate easterly backing to north then becoming 
variable.

Hecate strait.
Hurricane force winds warning continued.
Winds southeast gales 40 to storm force 50 knots rising to southerly 
storm force 50 to 60 this evening with hurricane force 65 over 
northern section. Winds easing to southerly gales 45 to storm
Force 55 near midnight then to south 15 to 25 Monday morning.
Winds easing to variable 10 to 15 Monday afternoon. Periods of rain 
tonight. A few showers Monday. Seas 3 to 4 metres building to 6 to 8

south 25 Monday morning then to variable 10 to 15 Monday afternoon.

except 5 to 6 in the south building to 6 to 8 throughout this
Evening then subsiding to 5 to 6 Monday.
Outlook. Winds moderate variable shifting to moderate to strong 
westerly.

Douglas channel.
Gale warning continued.
Winds variable 5 to 15 knots rising to northerly outflow 20 to 30 
this evening then shifting to southerly inflow 25 to gales 35 
overnight. Winds easing to northerly outflow 10 to 20 Monday morning. 
Periods of rain.
Outlook. Winds moderate to strong northerly outflow.

    Offshore

Bowie.
Storm warning continued.
Winds southeast gales 40 to storm force 50 knots shifting to 
southwest gales 40 to storm force 50 this evening then easing to 25 
to gales 35 Monday morning. Winds easing to southwest 15 to 25

this evening then subsiding to 5 to 6 Monday morning.
Southeastern half..Winds southerly gales 40 knots easing to southwest 
15 to 20 late this evening then to variable 5 to 15 overnight. Winds
rising to southwest 15 to 25 Monday afternoon. Periods of rain. Seas
4 to 5 metres building to 6 to 8 this evening.
Outlook. Winds moderate southwest rising to gale force over southern
section.
