History

Carbon monoxide has long been recognized as a pollutant of concern. National Ambient Air Quality Objectives (NAAQOs) for CO were established under the Clean Air Act (now subsumed into the Canadian Environmental Protection Act, 1999 (CEPA 1999)) in the 1970's. Canadian vehicle and engine emission standards established and tightened over the years include emission limits for CO.
