Mandate


	Prince Edward Island has been referred to as the Garden Province.

The Capital Commission of Prince Edward Island is an incorporated Part II not-for-profit corporation formed in 1995 with the mandate to:

To promote Charlottetown as the Birthplace of Canada.
To develop initiatives, be they historical, cultural, educational, entertainment or otherwise which provide for further enhancement of the Birthplace theme.
To develop and promote cultural and educational opportunities associated with the Birthplace theme.
To co-ordinate and provide leadership to the business community and various levels of government on the benefits and opportunities associated with their active involvement in programs and events sponsored by the Corporation.
To explore, develop, and follow up on potential funding sources outside the Province, including the Federal Government, private sector, foundations, and corporate sponsorships.
To assume responsibility for the "Festival of the Fathers" event.
To co-ordinate activities to promote the development of Prince Edward Island’s Capital City as a premier tourism destination.
To co-ordinate and expand upon Birthplace related events located on the waterfront generally, and Confederation Landing specifically.
To provide an advocacy role in all tourism and birthplace matters as they relate to the Capital City region.
To develop co-operative marketing programs with Governments and private sector.

This mandate acts as the guiding principal for all initiatives undertaken by the Capital Commission of Prince Edward Island.
