Traffic Data Collection and Analysis
|
What do we do... |
|
The purpose of this section is to provide technical and informational
support to the Department for its highway construction and highway
maintenance activities. To achieve these goals, the section is
responsible to develop, operate and maintain several electronic
information systems. The three information systems that
support these purposes are;
-
Integrated traffic Monitoring System (ITMS)
-
Traffic volume data and annual average traffic summaries for all provincial highways
-
Weigh-In-Motion System (WIMS)
-
Highway vehicles weight and type classification
information and estimates for all provincial highways.
-
Pavement Condition Monitoring System (ITMS)
-
Pavement condition data and other summary
information relating to the provincial "arterial" and higher
level "collector" type highways - not province
wide.
|
|
-
This section develops information systems and manages field data collection processes,
analyzes the
information and carries out regular quality control and quality assurance for the above systems.
-
In concert with these, this section also carries out other types of compilations and analysis for highway
planning processes such as capacity analysis, intersection turning movement analysis, motor vehicle collision
analysis and safety audits.
