RM of Hanover Interactive Map

More Information

Since 1998, the Rural Municipality of Hanover has been steadily developing their Geographic Information System (GIS) to help provide land information to Council and staff. A GIS is an organized collection of computer hardware, software, geographic data and personnel designed to capture, store, update, manipulate, analyze and display geographically referenced information. The ability of a GIS to efficiently manage and display all geographic data helps local decision makers evaluate often complex land use issues. Given the level of agricultural, residential and business development within the municipality, the most efficient way to manage this information is by using a GIS.

Currently, the Hanover municipality is expanding its GIS by making data available to others via the Internet. In cooperation with Agriculture & Agri-Food Canada’s Prairie Farm Rehabilitation Administration and Triple R Community Futures Development Corporation, the RM of Hanover has set up an Internet map server that is accessible to anyone with a connection to the Internet.

Currently the application will allow the user to view and extract information on land parcels, old & new zoning districts, transportation and hydrography. High resolution Ikonos satellite imagery that was produced by Space Imaging can also be accessed to view buildings, roads, agricultural fields and other features. The application also contains tools to calculate distances, measure areas, create buffers and print maps.

It is hoped that the site will be useful for anyone that has a need for spatial data. Some examples may include farmers who are completing nutrient management plans, realtors who require land parcel and zoning information and land use planners who are assessing a subdivision proposal.

Those who use the site are encouraged to e-mail their feedback to the development team.
