CUSTOMS NOTICE N-013

Ottawa, December 8, 1995

Ottawa Whole Potatoes and Yellow Onions

This is to advise that on  November 27, 1995, the Department initiated a re-investigation pursuant to the Special Import Measures Act, in respect of the normal values of whole potatoes and yellow onions, originating in or exported from the United States of America, for use or consumption in the Province of British Columbia.

This re-investigation is part of the Department's enforcement of the Canadian International Trade Tribunal findings of June 4, 1984 and April 18, 1986, respecting whole potatoes, and the Canadian International Trade Tribunal finding of April 30, 1987, respecting yellow onions. This re-investigation is required so that the normal values can be determined on the basis of current information.

Fresh whole potatoes are normally imported into Canada under the Harmonized System classification number 0701.90.00.00 and fresh whole yellow onions under 0703.10.91.00.

In accordance with Memorandum D14-1-8, Re-investigation Policy under the Special Import Measures Act (SIMA), the new normal values will be issued within 90 days from the beginning of the re-investigation and applicable to goods released from customs on and after the date they are issued.

The new normal values, when in effect, may be higher than the current values, and higher assessments of anti-dumping duty may result.

Notice of the completion of the review will be published in a Customs Notice.
