How does a caregiver get health insurance

The Ministry of Health (MOH) in Ontario regulates the publicly funded Health Insurance Plan (OHIP). Most Ontario residents are eligible for coverage under the Plan.

It is a caregiver's obligation to determine their eligibility and to initiate steps to obtain coverage.

Coverage normally becomes effective 3 months after the date residency is established.

Detailed information is provided on the MOH website in the Question and Answer World Wide Web site page.

How does a caregiver get a SIN card

Everyone who works in Canada requires a Social Insurance Number (SIN).

A card containing a unique SIN will be issued to an applicant by HRDC. There is no charge for the issuance of a first card.

Assistance in obtaining a SIN card and an application form are available from the HRDC Social Insurance Number site.
