Professional Development Centre for Aboriginal Policing (PDCAP)The Aboriginal and policing community are on record as wanting national standards in police training to improve skills, interoperability and the more efficient use of police resources. These police community goals argued for the centralization of a national, Aboriginal training component at the Canadian Police College (CPC). How well police officers can respond to the needs of Aboriginal peoples is determined by their knowledge, skills and attitudes. And these, in turn, are shaped by the leadership, training and education they receive. The Professional Development Centre for Aboriginal Policing (PDCAP) at the Canadian Police College was created in 2006 to provide that level and quality of training to police officers who provide policing services to Aboriginal communities. Senior Police Administration Course (SPAC) for Aboriginal PolicingThis SPAC is focus to address the current and future needs of police agencies that are responsible for delivering policing services to Aboriginal Communities. This three-week course offers officers in middle management positions exposure to knowledge, competencies and skills that can assist with the increased responsibility and authority of their jobs. Using a variety of adult education methodologies, many centered around group problem solving exercises and real life examples drawn from candidates’ experiences, participants learn and practice leadership competencies, such as affecting change and managing resources in the work unit. As a result the candidate’s ability to create a more productive work environment is enhanced. Contact: Insp. Len Busch |
