In 2004-05, according to the Youth Smoking Survey (YSS), 21% of youth, in grades 5 through 9, reported ever trying any tobacco product (cigarettes, cigars or pipes, bidis, chewing tobacco and snuff). Smoking cigarettes (19%) was the most common form of tobacco product tried. There was no difference between boys and girls with respect to the prevalence of ever having tried smoking cigarettes.
