Myth vs Fact:

Myth

Fact

"I need a university degree before I can apply."

An applicant need only have a Canadian secondary school diploma , a high school equivalency diploma / G.E.D. (or other equivalent).

"You must be bilingual or a member of a visible minority."

An applicant must be proficient in either English or French, not both.

Applicants from ALL groups are welcome.

"I am too young to apply."

"I shouldn't apply before I'm 25."

An applicant can apply at 18 years of age but must be 19 years old by the end of training.

"I'm too old to apply."

We do not discriminate on age. Everyone who meets our bona fide occupational standards can apply.

"It helps to study law enforcement or criminology before applying."

Anything an applicant chooses to study shows a commitment to continuous learning. A degree in criminology is not required.

"I have, or have had, a criminal record so I can't apply."

An applicant with a past criminal record can apply after obtaining a pardon.
