Regular Members Civilian Members Public Service Members Regular Members (police officers) A great deal of care goes into the selection of RCMP cadets, as they will be responsible for safeguarding Canadian communities in a professional and upstanding manner throughout their careers. The selection process is rather long and involved because the RCMP must check applicants' backgrounds, honesty, integrity and adaptability for police work. In compliance with the Employment Equity Act, the RCMP is committed to promoting equity when dealing with applicants. Although all applications are considered, an applicant's chance of being selected varies according to the quality of his or her track record. Applicants looking for a job rapidly, or who are unwilling to relocate, should not apply. Only applicants highly motivated to work for the RCMP will complete all nine steps of the selection process which lasts between 6 and 18 months. Civilian Members The RCMP hires
civilian members for their specialized scientific, technological,
communications and administrative skills. For more information on Civilian
