ResourcesCanadian Police College Library StaffThe Library’s most powerful resource is its knowledgeable, experienced staff. Canadian police personnel may contact the Library’s open source information professionals to save time, money, energy, and frustration. CatalogueClients may search the online catalogue to see what the Library has on each topic. It is possible to limit searches to retrieve only what is required, place selected items into a virtual shopping cart, complete an online order form, and electronically submit a request to borrow. Multi-media and online resourcesCanadian police personnel may borrow items from the Library’s audiovisual collection of over 2000 DVDs and videos to meet their presentation and personal learning needs. On-site, clients may use the Library’s collection of specialized CD-ROMs containing, for example, full text issues of the Tactical Edge magazine, the Globe and Mail newspaper, and l’Actualité. The Library subscribes to e-journals, e-books, databases, and electronic newsletters covering international events, policing, terrorism, and management, among other topics. Although the Library cannot provide clients with direct access to all its commercial electronic resources, staff members will be pleased to conduct research on their behalf to supply them with pertinent material, as permitted by our contracts with the information vendors. Books and studiesThe Library acquires police-related material published in the English- and French-languages from around the world and is pleased to accept donations of non-restricted police studies, theses, and reports. The Library’s collection of 20,000+ police and management items is one of the most comprehensive in the world. Since the Library is the official repository for RCMP publications, police personnel also have access to a wealth of open source studies and publications produced by Canada’s national police service. Current AwarenessCanadian police personnel may subscribe to the monthly CPC Library E-Lert to keep up to date about the latest book and video acquisitions, Web sites and recent articles of interest, and much more, by E-mailing their requests to: library@rcmp-grc.gc.ca. Clients are also invited to consult the CPC Library’s topical bibliographies to initiate their research, but may request a customized open source literature search at any time. |
