About the CPCA Vision of ExcellenceThe Canadian Police College is a national centre of police learning excellence MissionThe CPC will develop police leadership and management competencies, and provide advanced and specialized training to police officers and senior police officials, particularly in the areas of organized and multi-jurisdictional crime. HistoryThe federal government established the Canadian Police College (CPC) in 1976 to provide training to all police in Canada and to a limited number of foreign police officers. Each year, roughly 120 sessions of over 40 advanced and specialized police training courses and workshops are provided to nearly 3, 250 police officers. Courses are offered in both English and French. There are two learning branches within the College: the Police Executive Centre (PExeC) and the Police Sciences School (PSS). The offerings of the PExeC include police middle management and leadership learning and police executive continuous learning. The PSS concentrates on advanced/multi-jurisdictional training in investigative techniques, high-tech crime investigation, forensic identification and explosives disposal/investigation. The Canadian Police College Library, which is also the RCMP departmental library, contains a large and varied collection of English and French literature on law enforcement and management. Its catalogue is available on the Internet and it provides access to a number of electronic databases of value to intelligence-based policing. The College also maintains a research function and produces original research on policing matters. The(CPC) is a sub-activity of the RCMP National Police Services. It also has an advisory board which provides direction of a strategic and practical nature. The members of the advisory board represent the larger police community and other stakeholders in Canadian policing. |
