Language Toolbox

Translators, revisers and writers: are you desperately searching for the right word Our toolbox offers you a wide range of terminology resources that will help you solve your trickiest language, terminology and usage problems.

First, use TERMIUM Plus® , the Translation Bureau's definitive terminology tool. It has four components: a bilingual dictionary
for finding equivalents, a unilingual dictionary to help you understand the meaning of a term, a writing tools module where you can find rules on style and usage, and a collection of cutting-edge terminology that lets you master the jargon specific to certain fields.

If you'd rather consult a specialized glossary, visit the Publications section, where you'll find a wealth of terminology resources (glossaries, vocabularies, lists of terms) focussing on highly specialized fields. Many of our publications are free and they can be read on-line or downloaded. The others can be obtained at a reasonable price.

The Writing Tips of the Month section presents some language problems and offers solutions. Each month, you can learn a little more about Canadian usage and correct English.

Lastly, the Language Update (formerly Terminology Update) section is dedicated to the periodical of the same name, a goldmine of information on the major developments in the language industry, on the evolution of language and usage. Consult it to find out how to subscribe and to take a look at an article from the most recent issue.
