UPDATE ON THE DEPOSITORY SERVICES PROGRAM
AND LIBRARY AND ARCHIVES WEB LINK FEASIBILITY STUDY
January 31, 2006
In response to requests from certain depository libraries, we are happy
to announce that the DSP-LAC Web Link project is going forward. Following
completion of the feasibility study, it was mutually agreed by the DSP and
LAC representatives that we would proceed with building two-way record-to-record
hyperlinks between the e-bookstore and Amicus Web sites. It was also agreed
that the download link allowing DSP users to download all available LAC MARC
records for a given Checklist would also proceed.
The proposed timeline for this project is as follows:
- Technical Requirements and Work to be completed by end of January 2006;
- Internal
and Focus Group Testing (possibly using DSP Libraries in the National Capital
Region) to be conducted in February 2006;
- Proposed Launch of Link before
end of March 2006.
Please note that the launch will be a pilot in that not all types of publications
will have functional links. We will be linking records for relatively recent
and current monographs only. The reason for this is that cataloguing operations
on both sides need time to catch up with the requirements of this new system
function. Should you require additional information, please contact Gay Lepkey
at (613) 943-1389.
