Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms
The Depository Services Program needs your help!
(April 23, 2002)
The DSP has been requested to provide free copies to the public of the Canadian
Charter of Rights and Freedoms and its guide. A new edition of the guide to
the charter will be released around April 17th. Communication Canada would like
the DSP network to make free copies of Guide and Charter available to any person
entering a depository library. We would like depositories to display the posters
and distribute the publications to those who request it. The DSP will supply
to each depository, at the DSPs expense, 50 copies of the guide and charter
as well as English and French promotional posters. By assisting the Program
meet this need there is no direct cost to the depositories.
In supporting the Charter of Rights and guide initiative, the DSP not only
hopes to remind everyone of the enhanced accessibility depositories bring to
Canadian Government publications, but also to promote greater awareness of the
wealth of Canadian government information accessible through Canada @
your library. By participating in Canadians access to the guide
and charter initiative, depository institutions will be reinforcing to Communication
Canada the important role they play locally, and the access they have to a significant
body of users of Government of Canada information. They will also be capitalizing
on a unique opportunity to remind citizens through this Communication Canada
initiative that in their depository libraries Canadians have, for free, a rich
pool of Government of Canada publications and information.
The initiative has the support of the Library Advisory Committee of the DSP.
Thank you in advance.
