Procedures for Acquiring
Geological Survey of Canada “A” Series Maps and Open File Maps

The following explains how to request cartographic materials from the Geological Survey of Canada (GSC) that are available to Depository Services Program (DSP) Full Map Depositories.

Note: Geological maps are not available to Selective (Category 3) DSP map depositories:

There are 2 types of Full Map Depository (Category 1):

1. Depositories that receive hard copy maps and digital data
2. Depositories that receive only hard copy maps but not digital data

1. Full Map Depositories (Category1) with facilities for digital data will receive:
   
   
   1. All "A" series paper maps (automatically).
      
      
   2. All "A" series maps in digital format on CD-ROM (automatically).
      
      
   3. Open File (OF) maps in paper format. These are to be selected from the Monthly Information Circular, posted on the NRCan website: http://gsc.nrcan.gc.ca/index_e.php
      
      
   4. Open File (OF) maps in digital format on CD-ROM. These are to be selected from the Monthly Information Circular, posted on the NRCan website: http://gsc.nrcan.gc.ca/index_e.php.
      
      Items 3 and 4 should be ordered directly through the GSC Bookstore. Selections must be limited to items published on or after April 1, 2002. The ordering library should indicate that it is a DSP map depository.

      Open Files (OF) maps will not to be announced in the Weekly Checklist because of their preliminary nature. (No ISBN or catalogue number is assigned to these products.)
