"Protect
Communities, Reduce Reoffending"
The mission
of the B.C. Corrections Branch is to increase public safety through offender management
and control. This mission is consistent with government priorities and the service
delivery plan of the Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General. |
The Branch is organized
into two divisions: - Adult
Custody Operates correctional centres with various levels of security and
control for individuals awaiting trial or serving a provincial custody sentence.
Correctional programs address thought patterns, behaviour and lifestyles that
are known to contribute to crime.
- Community
Corrections and Corporate Programs - Operates 53 probation offices across the
province. Probation officers facilitate offender programs, supervise court orders,
and oversee conditional release programs. They also prepare reports and assessments
about adult offenders, victims, and sentencing options for the court. The division
manages community work service, and supports offenders to make positive changes
in their behaviour and attitudes.
The
division also provides expertise, co-ordination and support to all parts of the
Corrections Branch through research and program development, information system
and contract administration. The division is responsible for strategic, and capital
planning. It is also the corporate link to other branches, ministries and agencies.
