Procurement Transformation - Delivering Better Value for Canadians

In April 2006, the government introduced the Federal Accountability Act and its associated Action Plan, bringing forward measures to help strengthen accountability and increase transparency and oversight in government operations.

In line with this commitment, the government is getting smarter and more disciplined about how it buys goods and services to save Canadians $2.5 billion over five years. The government is also working hard to ensure that, with these changes suppliers across Canada – both large and small – will continue to have fair and open access to compete for government business.

PWGSC is a key player in helping to improve government buying as part of its Way Forward initiative. PWGSC is currently working on new standing offer arrangements for various categories of the government’s most commonly purchased commodities.

PWGSC will continue to consult with suppliers and industry representatives as it creates new tools that will achieve better value on government buying.
