Government of Canada Announces $702,992 Contract for Wharf Deck Construction

For immediate release

SAINT-LOUIS-DE-KENT, September 22, 2005 -- A $702,992 competitive contract has been awarded to St. Louis Enterprise, of Saint-Louis-de-Kent, New Brunswick, to construct a new deck at the Cap-de-Saint-Louis wharf, Kent County. Awarded on behalf of the Small Craft Harbours (SCH) program of Fisheries and Oceans Canada, this contract will be completed in the spring of 2006.

The announcement was made today by the Honourable Dominic Leblanc, MP for Beauséjour, on behalf of the Honourable Scott Brison, Minister of Public Works and Government Services.

"Congratulations to St. Louis Enterprise, a small-town company, for bidding on and winning this competitive tender," said Mr. Leblanc. "The Government of Canada's tender program is open, accountable and easy to access by any registered company from anywhere in Canada."

The company will demolish the existing wooden timber deck, stingers and pile caps. It will construct a new concrete deck complete with new pile caps, concrete beams, concrete deck, ladders and fenders.

The Small Craft Harbours (SCH) program works in partnership with local harbour authorities in five regions across the country to provide commercial fishers and boaters with safe and accessible facilities. The SCH program ensures that nearly 1,300 harbours and 6,000 structures, critical to the economic and social life of small maritime communities, remain safe and in good repair.
