imageWelcome to the Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) Web site on ethnocultural issues. We are pleased to provide you with information on the management of offenders belonging to ethnocultural minority groups and on the correctional programming for their successful community reintegration.

Canadian society as a whole, is growing more and more diverse and this is a major challenge for the Correctional Service of Canada.

One of the key factors in the social reintegration and thereby, the reduction of recidivism is community involvement in the social reintegration process. Success in starting afresh depends partly on personal initiative and partly on the opportunities the community at large provides.

This Web site is one of our communication tools dedicated to the sharing of ideas, best practices and knowledge. Please take advantage of it and contact us. You can share your innovative and creative ideas and achievements with us.

Heritage Canada has contributed to the development of this Web site.

HOW TO GET INVOLVED

Agencies and individuals in the community can also deliver programs or reinforce program activities. If, as a member of the community, you are interested in contributing to CSC's work in the social reintegration process and you have already established contacts with CSC officials (parole officer), you can be solicited to help ex-inmates by doing the following:

  • Be an interpreter or translator
  • Be a mentor
  • Help with job searches
  • Help with money management (budgeting)
  • Find a place to live
  • Be an escort for an inmate on a temporary absence, etc.
  • Community Forum Program
  • Volunteer participation

  • COMMUNITY RESOURCES/EMPLOYMENT AND BUSINESS OPPORTUNITIES

    More

We realize that getting started on the right path can be very difficult for some individuals. You will learn how to access some of the basic services in Canada provided by government agencies and community organizations.

Many community organizations and associations provide basic services and programs to their membership. Please contact them for details and assistance.

    MULTICULTURAL SERVICES/PROGRAMS

    More

Lessons learned through experience with bilingualism and multiculturalism have taught Canada that acceptance and understanding of differences between peoples make collective development possible.

    CANADIAN ETHNOCULTURAL DIVERSITY

    More

Canada's multiculturalism is its most valuable resource. You will find information on the operation of the Multiculturalism Act in the Correctional Service of Canada as well as on national/regional ethnocultural advisory committees.
