From the Fur Trade to Free Trade: Forestry and First Nations Women in Canada

Darlene Rude and Connie Deiter

(April 2004)  This report contributes to the discussion of women and trade agreements by making the connections between First Nations women, forestry and free trade. While Aboriginal women were historically key players in trade relationships on this continent, they have been increasingly excluded and marginalized. The research focuses on First Nations women in Western Canada who are taking the lead to advocate for Aboriginal title and rights, protect the environment and preserve the traditional lifestyle of their tribal group.
