The Elizabeth Fry Society of Saint John / Mother-Child Read Aloud Program

  • Increased in children's self-worth, literacy promoted.
  • Mothers contributed to child raising, bond between mother and child maintained through Read-Aloud Program which assists offenders in their reintegration and alleviate impact of incarceration on the children.
  • For costs of books, tapes and coordination: one hundred and thirty five books for twenty-seven children.
  • Four visits with approximately fifteen women per visit.

ATLANTIC

The John Howard Society of Nova Scotia / Transportation for Families

  • Transportation for families - four trips covering to Atlantic, Dorchester and Westmorland Institutions (sixty visits per year).
  • Family relationship maintained to assist offenders in their reintegration and alleviating impact of incarceration on families.

ATLANTIC

The John Howard Society of Newfoundland and Labrador / Private Family Visits for Federal Inmates

  • Family relationships supported and maintained to assist offenders in their reintegration and alleviating impact of incarceration on families.
  • Participation to Private Family Visits increased by funding support to families living in Newfoundland and Labrador.

ATLANTIC

The John Howard Society of Newfoundland and Labrador / Family Resource Centre

  • Capacity for the maintenance and strengthening of offenders' family ties built to assist offenders in their reintegration.
  • Periodic updating of information packages and resources and quarterly day focus groups.
  • Contribution to ongoing operational costs including steering committee meetings.

QUEBEC

  • Average twenty-five rooms occupied per month.
  • Lodging as well as support services (meals and transportation) .for families of offenders, chaplains and volunteers provided.
  • Family counselling for families of offenders provided.

  • Mother-child relationships supported and maintained to assist women in their reintegration and alleviating impact of incarceration on children.
  • Twenty women involved in two activities per week.

PACIFIC

M2W2 Association

  • Volunteer force coordinated in the region assisting in the reintegration of offenders. Three hundred and fifty active volunteers involved in an average of four thousand offender contacts per year (institutional/community).
  • Establishment and maintenance of positive family relationships. Assisting offenders in their reintegration and alleviating impact of incarceration on families.

PACIFIC

Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Vancouver

  • Offenders' family ties maintained at Kent, Matsqui, Mission, Mountain, KWI, Regional Health Centre, and Ferndale Institutions.
  • Four hundred (400) offender contacts (institution/community) per year and support to their families (over seventy (70) families per year).
  • Counselling provided to offenders and their families assisting them to understand how institutions function and alleviating the impact of incarceration on family members.

PACIFIC

The Salvation Army

  • Family ties maintained assisting in the reintegration of offenders and alleviating the impact of incarceration on families.
  • Over nine hundred offender contacts per year and over one hundred and twenty family contacts.
  • Family visitation program and assistance.
  • Counselling and emotional support provided to families of offenders.

PACIFIC

The John Howard Society of the Fraser Valley

  • Family ties strengthened -offender's reintegration facilitated and impact of incarceration on families alleviated:
  • Transportation and accommodation (eight hundred and sixty bed stays/year).
  • Counselling and emotional support provided to families of offenders: over four thousand five hundred (4,500) offenders contacts and over one thousand (1,000) family contacts.

NATIONAL

Canadian Families and Corrections Network

  • Services to families affected by reintegration - 3 years
  • A model of reintegration support for families of offenders designed, developed, tested and evaluated.
  • A family-based reintegration tool kit (package) developed and produced.
  • Volunteers trained in an accompaniment and support approach similar to Circles of Support
  • Volunteers to work with ten families for fourteen months (two months pre-release and twelve months post-release).

NATIONAL

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Canada / Mentoring Children with Incarcerated Parents

  • Three years - "Mentoring children of incarcerated parents).
  • Resource material program and community networking developed.
  • Volunteer adults trained to work with children of incarcerated parents.
  • Trained adult volunteer mentors matched with children (grades 2-5) who have one or two parents incarcerated.
  • National Crime Prevention Council also providing funding.
