Help with Adobe® Acrobat® (PDF) Files

Some of the pages available on the Translation Bureau site are electronic versions of documents that you can view and print across a broad range of hardware and operating systems. These PDF documents can be viewed in Adobe® Acrobat® Reader®.

Visit the Adobe® Acrobat® Web site for instructions on configuring your browser to work with the Acrobat® Reader® and for support and update information.

Converting PDF to HTML or ASCII Formats

The Adobe corporation, in cooperation with the University of Wisconsin-Madison Trace Center, has developed a tool to help make PDF files more accessible, especially for the visually disabled. The tool converts Adobe PDF documents into HTML or ASCII text which can be read by a number of common programs, namely screen reading programs that synthesize text as audible speech.

To convert Adobe PDF files, send an email to one of the following addresses and include either the URL or the actual PDF document:

pdf2txt@sun.trace.wisc.edu (ASCII)

pdf2html@sun.trace.wisc.edu (HTML)

The translated PDF file will be mailed back in a few minutes.
