Anniversary of the Statute of Westminster (1931)

In accordance with the rules for flying the Canadian flag and other flags in Canada, where physical arrangements make it possible, the Royal Union Flag (known as the Union Jack) will be flown from sunrise to sunset on Government of Canada buildings and establishments across the country on Monday, December 11, 2006, to mark the anniversary of the Statute of Westminster. This year marks the 75th anniversary of this statute.

"Physical arrangements" means the existence of at least two flag poles. The Canadian flag takes precedence and is not to be replaced by the Union Jack.

Commonwealth Day

As you are aware, the rules for flying the Canadian Flag and other flags in Canada provide that, where physical arrangements make it possible, the Royal Union Flag (known as the Union Jack) will be flown along with the Canadian Flag on all Government of Canada buildings and establishments across Canada to mark specific days - Commonwealth Day, Victoria Day and the anniversary of the proclamation of the Statute of Westminster.

Would you please ensure that the Union Jack be flown from sunrise to sunset on your establishments on Monday, March 13, 2006 where it is possible (i.e. there is a second mast) to mark Commonwealth Day. (Posted on March 6, 2006)
