S24E Software Estimation Techniques
Language(s)
English & French
Seminar Description
A two day seminar exploring the current best practices in performing
software estimation. Including standard development life cycles
(waterfall, spiral) plus new technologies such as Object Oriented
Programming, Extreme Programming, E-Commerce applications and Web
Site Construction. Software projects are notoriously difficult to
plan and manage. In this seminar, you will learn why and practice
techniques in estimating both effort and size of software projects.
Two mandatory metrics if the project is to be executed on time on
budget and within specified quality goals. The relationship between
quality goals and estimation time and costs will be explored. The
material is taken from best industrial practices. Students will
expand on the lecture material by doing practical case studies in
class in estimating, using such practices as Raleigh curves, metaphors
and function points. Exposure to a commercial estimation tool will
be provided. They will also understand the importance of knowing
the limits of the accuracy of estimates.
