Faith Community Resources

These resources are meant to inspire and assist faith communities at all levels to learn about and practise restorative justice values and principles.

...People are tired of discussion, jargon and words. It is time to live, love, forgive and give hope. It is time to journey with one another and to resist the temptation to hide from the suffering of one another.

The two, suffering and hope, live from each other. Suffering without hope produces resentment and despair; hope without suffering creates illusions, naiveté and cheap solutions. Let us plant even though we who plant will never see the fruit of our efforts. We must live by the love of what we will never see.

What is hope? It is the hunch that the overwhelming brutality of facts that oppress and repress is not the last word. It is the profound conviction that, in a miraculous and unexpected way, life is preparing the creative events that will open the way to freedom and resurrection...

Spiritual Resources...
Individuals and groups from many faith perspectives have provided many of the faith-based texts and prayers on Restorative Justice which are found here. Interfaith prayer services and reports on interfaith events are included.

Living Examples...
As long as Restorative Justice principles and values remain simply theory, they have little power to transform and heal. These texts, some written in the first person by victims, others by those who have been found guilty of offending and people close to them, others by persons who know these principles and values are relevant to their everyday lives are moving examples of the difference Restorative Justice can make in people’s lives.

Youth Resources...
Children are demonstrating their immense capacity to learn the skills and embody the attitudes and values of Restorative Justice through peer mediation, conflict resolution and talking circles in their schools. A few stories and activities are provided that could be used in the context of Sunday School.

Books...
Featured here are books that touch on the spiritual roots of Restorative Justice.
