Cities and Communities
The most advanced countries in the world have cities and communities that are great places to live.
Canadians want to live in good, safe, healthy places – places that are welcoming and that encourage innovation and creativity. We recognize that Canada’s well being, our success as a nation, and our quality of life lies in the strength of our cities and communities. The federal government has a useful and supportive role to play in securing the future of our cities and communities, in cooperation with provincial and municipal authorities.
Increased federal support for infrastructure is helping Canada’s cities and communities become places with a high quality of life. Infrastructure, including water and wastewater treatment, broadband internet access in rural and remote communities, effective public transit and transportation all come together to support the well being of Canadians. Community-based and strategic infrastructure is also the driver for attracting new business and expanding existing ones, encouraging immigration, retaining young people, and drawing our family and friends back home.
