POLICY OBJECTIVE

1. To optimize a safe environment for employees, offenders and the public through meaningful interactions between these parties.

RESPONSIBILITIES OF STAFF

2. It is the responsibility of all staff who interact directly with offenders to enhance their knowledge-base of the offenders' activities and behaviours by increasing awareness of the factors that contribute to, or may compromise the safety and security of employees, offenders and the public.

3. The reporting and recording of information and observations of the offenders' activities and behaviours is critical to maintaining a safe environment. This information shall be recorded on the Officer's Statement/ Observation Report (CSC/SCC 0875) to be shared with security and case management employees and others, as deemed necessary in relation to the nature of the information.

OPERATING PROCEDURES

4. Operating procedures shall be established in such a way as to facilitate staff visibility and the highest degree of interaction between employees and offenders in a manner that is consistent with the safety of staff and offenders.
